Since its launch in 2021, Volt Capital has made 60+ pre-seed and seed stage investments in notable companies like Replit, Squads, LayerZero, and USDAI.

We are looking for a founding researcher to join the firm in our New York office.

About the Role

You’ll be working on high-level projects, research, portfolio support and ops within Volt Labs. This role is largely self-directed: ideally, you’re a self-starter who is keen to lead research and initiatives across frontier verticals.

Responsibilities

• Research and publish work in relevant frontier verticals
• Develop internal initiatives and projects
• Collaborate with the research and investment team on prospective investment opportunities
• Evaluate (and sometimes produce) tech specs for protocol designs and instantiations
• Evaluate existing protocols and networks for optimization, security and/or performance
• Help develop and spec internal tooling
• Willingness to travel as necessary

About you

• Strong, native understanding of distributed protocol design
• Have a background in (or dropped out of) academic research
• Ability to independently identify mechanism design problems and propose solutions
• 3+ years of experience working in frontier technology
• Have published works in relevant fields
